Nestled in the heart of Virginia’s Piedmont countryside, Great Meadow is a 250-acre field events center and steeplechase course operated under stewardship of the Meadow Outdoors Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of open space for community use.
Great Meadow and the Meadow Outdoors Foundation were founded and the land donated by news executive and philanthropist Arthur W. (Nick) Arundel 20 years ago. Until then, the property had been slated to become a development of more than 500 homes. Rescued from urbanization, the stunningly beautiful, rolling site has instead become a model for adaptive use of open space for community events. Today, Great Meadow has become a valued member of the Virginia charitable and national equestrian sports communities.

ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION TO HOLD 10 MEMORY WALKS
THROUGHOUT MARYLAND
BALTIMORE – Get out your walking shoes. The Alzheimer’s Association will hold its annual
Memory Walks throughout Maryland to raise funds and awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and
the Alzheimer’s Association.
Memory Walks in Maryland annually raise more than $500,000 and attract more than 4,000
participants and volunteers. Occurring in September and October, this year’s events will take place
in the following locations:

Sept. 30 9 a.m.– noon Annapolis Eastport Elementary School
Oct. 1 2-6 p.m. Cumberland Alleghany College of Maryland

Oct. 7 10 a.m.-noon Cambridge* Great Marsh Park
Oct. 14 10 a.m.-noon Ellicott City Centennial Park, Pavilion H

Memory Walks throughout Maryland to raise funds and awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and

Memory Walks in Maryland annually raise more than $500,000 and attract more than 4,000
participants and volunteers. Occurring in September and October, this year’s events will take place

The harbor and wharfs of Chestertown will be filled to capacity on the weekend of November 3-5, 2006 as ships from across the mid-Atlantic make their way up the Chester River to participate in the schooner Sultana's fifth annual Downrigging Weekend. Established in 2001, Downrigging Weekend marks the close of Sultana Projects' sailing season and the beginning of "downrigging" for many of the region's tall ships and traditional sailing vessels. The weekend will afford the public opportunities to view, board and sail on the assembled fleet and to join in celebrating the maritime heritage of the region. Eleven "tall ships" and historic vessels are scheduled to participate in Downrigging Weekend 2006, including the Kalmar Nyckel, Pride of Baltimore, II and the schooner Virginia. |

KIDBUCKS GAME SHOW

A thrilling game show where randomly selected members of the audience, participate in wild and crazy games. The final winner enters the Kidbuck$ chamber and grabs as many “Kidbucks” as possible, as they swirl about the chamber. Catch the fun, excitement and prizes! If you would like to be a contestant on the show, you must arrive 5 – 10 minutes prior to show time and be between the ages of 3 – 15 years old to be eligible! You could be the big winner!
HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED
Nine contestants between the ages of three and fifteen are chosen from the audience by a raffle system. The contestants are divided into three groups based on their size and physical ability. Each group of three contestants play wild and crazy games to determine a winner. The winner of each heat moves into the winners circle to await the final round and the runners up all receive a prize.
When all three semi finalists have been determined, the final round is played. In this round the semifinalists “spin to win” on the winners wheel. Age and size give no one an advantage. Only lady luck knows who will win this round! The one who spins the highest number is the grand champion and enters the money chamber where they have 30 seconds to grab as many Kindbuck$ as they can as they swirl about the chamber. The Kidbuck$ are redeemed for prizes based on the number of bucks collected. Additionally at the end of the show, one more ball from the raffle machine is drawn and the person that is holding that ticket wins a prize as well.

The Hot Rod Jalopyrama IV is a traditional indoor/outdoor hot rod, jalopy, custom car & vintage race car show. Outside and inside cars are restrictd to pre'63 and older. Only pre '63 "steel" cars are personnally invited to display inside the Armory on the vintage hardwood floor. All of the inside cars are primarily East Coast cars that were built in the traditional styles of 40's thru 60's. You have to be invited to show inside, but all '63 cars are invited for outside parking.

Capitol Polo Club and the Tigerlily Foundation partner to host the inaugural Polo Cup for Breast Cancer Awareness.
WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/3/08 – On September 14th, 2008 The Capitol Polo Club of Washington, D.C. will open its gates for the inaugural Polo Cup for Breast Cancer Awareness. Held in conjunction with the Capitol Women’s Challenge, a USPA sponsored polo tournament where polo-playing women showcase their talents. The Polo Cup for Breast Cancer Awareness aims to increase the understanding of and support for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Combating breast cancer continues to be one of the medical profession’s greatest challenges. Most people have been touched personally, or someone very close to them has been affected by breast cancer. The Polo Cup for Breast Cancer Awareness is a high caliber event that brings together corporate leaders, non-profit organizations, medical professionals, diplomats and women diagnosed with breast cancer to raise awareness and support for these issues.
Proceeds from the event benefit local community efforts aiding women diagnosed with breast cancer through education, personal contact, financial assistance, and promoting a better feeling about themselves. This year, the Capitol Polo Club has joined the Tigerlily Foundation, a newly formed area nonprofit which supports those diagnosed with breast cancer as well as provides aftercare assistance to survivors. The mission of the foundation is to educate, empower, advocate for, support and inspire young women affected by breast cancer; to end isolation among young adult breast cancer survivors and to improve the quality of life for young adult breast cancer survivors by creating vigilant self-advocates.
The Tigerlily Foundation has garnered national media attention from such outlets as Good Morning America, FOX and Essence magazine by providing unique and effective programs to the community such as the “Chemo Buddy” program, which provides someone to talk to while aiding in navigating the healthcare system, deciphering medical jargon, and providing practical services for the patient and their family. In addition, they work with women to provide education, health updates, tips for health care, and to promote a sense of empowerment.
The Capitol Polo Club is a member’s club located 30 miles outside Washington, D.C. Every year the club hosts several events supporting great causes throughout the D.C. Metropolitan Area. The club’s strong support of the breast cancer awareness campaign is grounded in the fact that several club members have been personally affected or have a family member or friend who has been diagnosed.

The country’s top masters ( ages 30+ ) track & field athletes will compete in the 2009 USA Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships, to be held at Prince George's Sports and Learning Center in Landover MD, Friday-Sunday, March 20-22, 2009.
Approximately 1000 total including national and international competitors, national and world champions and former Olympians will compete in the championship meet.

Please join us for the 9th running of Maryland Junior Hunt Cup. Last year proved to be a tremendous day for junior racing and enjoying the perfect spring weather in a beautiful setting.
From the over 40 participants in the stick pony race to the spectacular stretch drive in the eighth race, it was not a day to be missed. There was a strong turnout of both contestants and spectators.
The Maryland Junior Hunt Cup was started to encourage the interest of young equestrians in horse racing. The day included pony flat races, junior field master chases, a stick pony race and a leadline trot race.
Proceeds from the Maryland Junior Hunt Cup benefit the Land Preservation Trust (LPT) and the North American Pt-to-Pt Association (NAPPA).

3rd Annual Festival of Tees Golf Tournament |

Miniature golfers of all ages will be putting their best putt forward at the 3rd Annual Festival of Tees golf tournament. ParTee Golf, in Perry Hall, Maryland, will once again host the tournament on Saturday, August 22 at 9 a.m. All funds raised from this golfing event will benefit children with cerebral palsy and spina bifida at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
The Festival of Tees is Baltimore’s only national qualifier miniature golf tournament. Last year dozens of players competed for two spots in the National Harris Cup Miniature Golf Finals in New Jersey. The two spots are up for grabs once again this year; the best two players in this miniature game for a giant cause will be one step closer to winning $10,000 in prize money and claiming the sports most coveted award, The Harris Cup.
Registration is $25 and participants can register at ParTee Golf in Perry Hall until August 21st.

9th annual Legacy Chase |

On September 26, 2009, Shawan Downs will host the 9th annual Legacy Chase. The Legacy Chase has become an annual social event for many, marrying the excitement of steeplechasing with the beauty of the countryside.
Proceeds from this event benefit GBMC HealthCare. Over the last three years, the event generated $265,000 that was donated to the nursing department at GBMC.
Shawan Downs' signature event, the Legacy Chase, features multiple steeplechase races, that award close to $100,000 in purse money. In addition, the day features a vendor villiage and children's Legacy Fair.

This year's Legacy Chase with introduce The Meadows, a new family-friendly destination that includes children's activities, food concessions, live music, vendors and much more.

One of Pimlico’s oldest stakes races, the Black-Eyed Susan was first run at Pimlico in 1919 as the Pimlico Oaks; but the name was later changed in 1952 to compliment the Preakness and to acknowledge the Maryland state flower. The mile and one-eighth test for three-year-old fillies is traditionally run the Friday before the Preakness. The race was first graded in 1973 and has been a Grade II event since 1976.
Among the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes winners are classic fillies as Nellie Morse, who was the only filly ever to also take the Preakness; Gallorette; High Voltage; Caesar's Wish and Wide Country.

On a late summer evening in 1868, an agreement among sportsmen to stage a special race to commemorate a memorable occasion became the foundation for the middle jewel of racing's Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes.
The Preakness Stakes has remained throughout history a true test of a horse's ability and class, a race where remarkable horses meet one another in a great classic.
The phrase "Triple Crown" was not coined until the 1930's, but it is this race on every third Saturday in May where the best Derby horses gather to see if there will be that window of opportunity for a Triple Crown Prospect. Much goes on during this colorful time at Pimlico, but it has always been the horse that draws the fans. As poet Ogden Nash wrote:
“The Derby is a race of aristocratic sleekness, for horses of birth to prove their worth to run in the Preakness.” |

The Babe Ruth Birthplace and Official Orioles Museum |

Baltimore is the hometown of one of baseball's greatest legends. This museum is dedicated to commemorating baseball. One portion of the museum features the great player Babe Ruth. Here, visitors have the opportunity to view some of Ruth's memorabilia: Ruth's original catcher's mitt from St. Mary's Industrial School, a bat he used during the 1927 season, and a scorecard from his first professional game are just a few of the items on display.
In another section of the museum, Orioles memorabilia is on display. Famous ball players such as Cal Ripken are honored here.

A majority of our events take place right here in Maryland, but occasionally we visit our neighboring states or travel further away from home.
